There’s something timeless about a family vacation by the sea—and documenting the Fernandes family’s getaway in Algarve, Portugal was exactly that: timeless, joyful, and deeply meaningful. This session was more than a photo shoot. It was a documentary experience—one that earned a This is Reportage Family award and a permanent place in my heart.
Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Cacela Velha, a quiet coastal village known for its whitewashed charm and golden sands, this session captured a relaxed and authentic slice of life. The children, full of laughter and curiosity, didn’t mind my presence—in fact, they forgot I was there. That’s the beauty of documentary photography. It allows me to blend into the background while preserving real, unfiltered moments.
We walked along the beach, the sun low in the sky, casting a golden glow over the waves. The kids played freely, barefoot and wild, their energy echoing the rhythm of summer. Parents embraced the slow pace, soaking in the beauty of the place and the connection within their family. There were no posed portraits, no forced smiles—just honesty, emotion, and the kind of simplicity that makes ordinary days feel extraordinary.
The Fernandes Family showed us what vacations are really about: reconnection, rest, and shared moments that bring everyone closer together. It was a pleasure and privilege to witness their bond and capture a visual story that they’ll revisit for years to come.
